Device Ownership Transfer Procedures
The following procedures explain how to transfer your Google account files to a personal Google account. Seniors MUST complete this process in order to keep their files and take ownership of their Chromebook after graduation. For assistance, please visit the Student-Led HelpDesk.
AP students that have not yet taken the AP exam will need to wait to complete this process until after the exam or plan to use a loaner Chromebook from the HelpDesk. Please see Mrs. Fox for questions.
Step One: Create a personal Gmail account (if you do not have one already) and Archive your school data.
- Create a Gmail account (if you do not already have a personal account):
- Use Google Takeout to transfer any data from your school account to your personal account.
- After graduation your school account will be disabled and you will no longer have access to emails or anything created in Google Drive within your school account.
- Below is the link to Google Takeout:

Step Two: Transfer Ownership of your school device
Follow these steps to keep your school Chromebook.
These steps MUST be completed or the device will be locked and not usable:
- Login to your Skyward account on the Chromebook.
- Click here to access your Skyward account
- Complete the Device Transfer Form by clicking the link in Skyward.
- All fees must be paid in order to complete the form and take ownership of the Chromebook. See the Bookstore or Student Helpdesk for questions regarding fees.
- Read the terms of the transfer and indicate Yes that you intend to transfer ownership of the Chromebook to yourself. Transfer of ownership means:
- The Moline-Coal Valley School District will no longer support any device that has been transferred.
- The device will no longer be enrolled in the School District’s security system.
- If you do not agree to these terms, or choose to give back the Chromebook, answer NO on the form and return your device to the Student-Led Helpdesk.
- Failure to do so will result in the device being locked and unable to be used by any account after graduation.
- The Chromebook MUST remain signed into your Moline account until after 5:00pm on the day you fill out this form to allow the updated policy to be added.
Step Three: Clear School District Restrictions on the Chromebook
Please note: Once the form is submitted, the device will be reset after 5:00 PM on the day you complete the form. If you submit the transfer agreement form in Skyward after 5:00 PM, you will have to wait until the following day at 5:00 PM to have the device reset.
Step Four: Complete the Chromebook setup
To continue to use the Chromebook at school on the District wireless network, you will need to follow these steps:
- At the “Welcome” screen, press the “Let’s Go” button.
- Connect to the MSDPRO wireless network
- Change the following:
- EAP Method to PEAP
- EAP Phase 2 authentication to MSCHAPv2
- Server CA certificate to Do not check
- Identity is the first part of your Moline username. Ex. 21smitjoh
- Password is your current Moline account password.
- Click Connect
- Accept the Google Terms of Service
- You can log into your Chromebook with your Moline account. You will need to use this account until the end of the school year to finish your classwork. You can also log in with your personal account now.
